Sr. Software Design Engineer
Job description:
Responsibilities include design, architecture, development and maintenance of IP Fabrics’ DeepSweep surveillance products. Analyze potential customer's specific needs pertaining to the DeepSweep products; design, develop and test any modifications that are desired to meet customer needs. Write product documentation/manuals. Provide post-sales configuration assistance and technical support.
Sample initial assignments may include:
- Take technical ownership of significant portions of the IP Fabrics data plane technology. The specific area will depend on the experience and focus area of the successful applicant. Tasks will include creating and documenting designs, implementing the designs using on new network engines, and testing/optimizing the designs and implementation.
- Create and optimize packet receive and transmit code to achieve desired performance. Participate or lead performance benchmarking and measurement efforts. This includes working on both the network acceleration engine and Linux software that interfaces with it.
- Linux system builds, kernel builds and device driver optimization.
- Interface with customers.
- Assume additional data plane design and implementation assignments.
Based on the above, it is expected that viable candidates will have the following attributes and experience:
- Will have experience designing and implementing low-level networking software.
- Will have been working in the engineering organization and been a senior designer for at least one Ethernet or IP-based communications product in our target market (telecommunications and enterprise communications). The most applicable types of equipment include firewalls, content switches/load balancers, session border controllers, intrusion detection systems, media gateways, routers, and IPSEC VPNs,
- Will have recent hands-on experience with Ethernet and IP. Will have visibility to other protocol suites, including the majority of: IPv4/IPv6, TCP/IP, UDP, SCTP, SSL, IPSEC, SIP, H.323, RTP. May have had visibility to ATM, X.25, frame-relay, SS7, and circuit-switched concepts, but this is not required and not extremely applicable unless it is also accompanied with strong IP-based experience.
- Will have worked on projects with visibility to both the data plane and control plane functionality and tradeoffs. Application development experience is a plus.
- Will have built Ethernet-based networking equipment typically at line speeds greater than 1Gbps. Home and small enterprise equipment is not extremely applicable. 10 Gbps Ethernet experience is a plus.
- ATCA system building experience is desirable.
- Some experience interfacing with customers and partners, although it’s likely this has been at the engineering level.
- Ideally, the projects worked on have been completed, sold to customers, and deployed.
